Here's Ulla

"Ulla started life 4.5 years ago as part of an illegitimate litter.  Seems mom (or dad) snuck out one night without permission.  Since the breeder was unable to determine the father of the litter, they were unable to file papers to race the dogs and fortunately called the adoption agency to give up the pups.  We got Ulla when she was just 3 months old.  Like most puppies she was terror on 4 paws for many months. Ulla absolutely adored Zeke at first sight and would scream anytime Zeke walked out of her sight (Ulla was not upset when the humans were gone).  Poor Zeke had to be baby sitter and he was not happy about sharing his space with another dog.  Ulla loves, loves, loves all dogs but is very shy around new people.  Once Ulla gets to know someone however, she jumps for joy when they visit.

Both Zeke and Ulla love to go visit the doggy grandparents who have 6 fenced acres.  Ulla loves to chase a tennis ball at full speed and was once clocked at 35 miles per hour with a radar gun."

Here's Emmy

Emmy - Cocker Spaniel 8" x 8" acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas

About Emmy : " Emmy was a rescue at a cocker spaniel shelter after her previous elderly owner likely passed away. My sister went to the PetSmart when they were featuring Cockers that weekend, and actually had her heart set on another dog that she had seen on the website. However, she saw Emmy in the back corner, being quiet and asked the shelter about her. No one had adopted her and she had been at the shelter for over 3 months. My sister couldn't believe such a beautiful well-mannered dog had no one to take her home, and immediately fell in love with her and adopted her. In the last year since she's had Emmy, she has brought my sister joy and love; she is the ultimate companion and everyone who meets her finds her so warm and lovable."

Meet Zeke

Zeke (Greyhound) 10" x 10" acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas

Happy birthday Zeke. Today is Zeke's 9th birthday.  All aboout Zeke:

"Zeke is a big greyhound and was terribly mistreated prior to adoption.  He was 15 pound underweight with lots of cuts all over him.  Zeke had terribly separation anxiety for a very long time. Flash forward a few years and Zeke is healthy 90lb greyhound.  Zeke loves all people and generally tolerates other dogs.  Zeke loves/demands going on walks everyday but rarely runs.  Zeke has only 3 toes on his back left foot.  When we lived in San Francisco, Zeke was a therapy dog for the humane society and would visit hospitals, nursing homes and retirement homes.  Zeke is a gentle giant and will stand still while kids and grownups fuss over him.  Zeke favorite pastime is sleeping on a comfy dog bed."

Meet Mister

 

Mister ( Cardigan Welsh Corgi) 10" x10", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas

Although Mister is no longer here on earth, he will be forever missed.

"Mister was named after the Doors song L.A. Woman.  There is a line in the middle where Jim Morrison sings "Mr. Mojo Rising"... I originally wanted to name him Mojo (this was way before Austin Powers) but my husband hated it.  So I went with Mister and it was perfect!  It was original and one of a kind, exactly like him!  I called him Mister Dog - he needed a title."

Mister touched my heart.  His "mom" wrote how wonderful she made her life. During a very dark period, Mister " curled up in bed with me for three solid days and brought me back to life with his warmth and energy.  I have him to thank for a lot.  Had it not been for that one, forty pound dog I don't know where I would be right now."

Meet Pepper

Pepper (Australian Cattle Dog) 8" x 8" acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.

Pepper is very special to her family.  Her family shared, " We got her as a companion for our 6 year
old autistic son, and she truly has become his best friend. The two of them play fetch and tug-of-war for hours. As my husband and I were hoping, Pepper senses that our son is "special", and she seems to be extra careful with him. Our son has the tendency to wander off every chance he gets, and Pepper is always quick to alert us or herd him back . We couldn't ask for a better family pet-she's wonderful with all our children"

Meet Goldie

Goldie ( Golden Retriever mix ) 8" x 8" acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas

Goldie was adopted about 10 years ago from the county animal shelter when she was about 2 years old. Goldie's people told me " Goldie is the light of our life, she would do anything for us and we would do anything for her."

"Goldie is also a heroine…about 5 years ago she saved our house. I was recovering from some oral surgery and fell asleep on the couch one Sunday. My husband needed to run some errands and left without waking me.

Goldie awakened me with the most ferocious barking I have ever heard from her, she was barking and running from me to the patio door, in a complete frenzy. I got up and looked out the window and found our neighbor’s shed had caught fire and our fence was starting to burn. This was about 20 feet from the corner of our house. I went out and got our hose on and managed to wet down part of our yard and house before the heat overwhelmed me.

Goldie and I got out of the house just as the fire department arrived. Before they managed to put it out the fire had burned about a third of our backyard but our house was intact, minus a few cracked windows, blistered paint and buckled siding. The firefighters said that if our hose had not been turned on our house would have most certainly caught fire. All three news stations turned out to film the fire and Goldie was on the news that night hailed as a heroine!"

I am honored to been given the opportunity to paint Goldie.  She is a reminder about the thousands of wonderful dogs out there in the shelters waiting for their forever homes.

Be a Part of my 2009 Faces of Love Project

I am looking to paint all the wonderful dogs out there: big, small, furry and not so furry.  I especially want to paint rescued and adopted dogs.

Please submit your photos for consideration. From the photos I receive, I will paint a selection of portraits. For this project, I will choose either an 8" x 8" size canvas, which will be $150 plus $10.00 shipping or a 10" x 10" size canvas for $185 plus $10 shipping. Please note – there is no obligation to purchase a portrait.

From the number of portraits I create, I will select twelve to be featured in my upcoming 2010 calendar.  I'm also creating a compilation book that will feature all the paintings, and will be available for purchase in the Fall of 2009

Interested in submitting your dog for consideration?  I need at least one good, clear photo of your dog's face.  The clearer the photos, the better the painting.  The best photos are shot without using a flash. I suggest getting up close to your dog on their level, and let their face fill the entire camera frame.

Please include stories about your dog.  His/her background, how you found him/her, why you adopted him/her, his/her personality likes dislikes. etc., - anything you want to share with me.  I love hearing all dog stories!  I will incorporate parts of your stories in the book along with the painting.

How it works: I will let you know when I receive your photo and stories.

The finished painting will be posted on my blog and be available for purchase.  You will have first choice to buy the painting, but if you are not interested, the painting will go up for sale to the general public.  Prints will also be available for purchase.

Meet Jak

Jak  8" x 8" acrylic on canvas

Jak is the coolest dog. As part of my 2009 Faces of Love project, his "mom" told me about Jak," he helps me raise and rehabilitate sick and injured animals. He is foster dad extraordinaire. He takes in anything I happen to bring in the door, for dogs to kittens to birds and squirrels. He has raised upward of 50 kittens and helped rehabilitated 5 injured dogs, he even helped raise a baby squirrel. "

Atlas - My latest commission painting.

Meet Atlas, a Rhodesian Ridgeback.  I was commissioned to paint him by a previous client for a close friend.  Atlas recently passed on to the Rainbow Bridge.  He is truly missed.
